Modern Survival and your pet dog
You may be very surprised if you knew the real ingredients that are in much of the dog food that you buy today at the grocery store or pet store. Think about it… food companies do not waste a single byproduct when processing foods. For example, when it comes to meat, every single ‘body part’ is either used or sold to be processed elsewhere.
I know it sounds gross, but seriously, there is ‘stuff’ in dog food that would turn your stomach, particularly foods that are shipped in from countries with questionable ethical practices. I’m not saying all dog food, but I dare say much of it.
It may seem to make sense during these economic times, to look for the cheapest product to save money, but when it comes to your own health, or the health of your pet, taking the time to do some research is smart.
I have done just that, for our own pet dog, Sampson, who we hope to keep around for awhile eating a healthy diet – a diet designed with health and longevity in mind.
Being preparedness minded and familiar with dehydrated foods as well as the hydration process (simple enough), we really liked the fact that this particular dog food brand is all dehydrated food, and will last on the shelf.
In fact, we liked it so much (and so does Sampson), we added them as a Sponsor!
About Sojos
Sojos, or Sojourner Farms, is a family owned and operated business since 1985 and located in Minnesota. Sojos makes batches of homemade all natural dog food every week, and each bag of food comes with a ‘born on’ date, so you’ll know it’s fresh. There are no preservatives or additives, it’s all natural. Sojos dog food is dehydrated.
Sojos dog food types
Sojos makes more than one type of dog food mix such as beef, turkey, veggies-only, etc. Each dog food mix contains a medley of dehydrated vegetables which you just need to soak in some water to rehydrate.
Sojos ‘Original‘ dog food mix comes with just veggies and was designed for you to mix in your own raw meat (or not) that you buy at the store. If the thought of serving your dog raw meat doesn’t sit well with you (believe it or not, dogs digestive system’s are designed for it), then by all means, feel free to cook your own meat before you add it to the Sojos ‘Original’ Mix.
Sojos ‘Complete‘ dog food mix comes with either dehydrated raw beef pieces or dehydrated raw turkey pieces with the veggies. This is the type we are currently feeding Sampson.
Sojos dog food shelf life
Because Sojos dog food mixes are dehydrated, they have an excellent shelf life of a year (my own general experience tells me that if stored properly, you’ll get more than a year). All you need to do is add water to rehydrate the food before you feed it to your dog.
Sojos dog food cost effectiveness
Yes, at first glance, you may think it’s more expensive than other brands of dog food, but here are some things to remember…
The food is dehydrated, so it has less weight and takes up much less space than dog food you would buy in the store.
For example, a two pound bag of Sojos, after re-hydration, will make approximately five pounds of meals for your dog to eat.
The food is entirely ‘real’ and natural. No ‘questionable’ meat substitutes or other non-natural ingredients. Made in the USA.
Shipping is free on all food orders.
This dog food is fresh, wholesome and natural food. That alone should potentially save him a trip or two to the vet!
They make cat food too.
Have a look for yourself at Sojos, where they explain much more about their dog food.
